I never thought this was going to find its way to the internet! I’ve been following Robert’s career for so long but I had never been able to find this interview so you can imagine that I was beyond happy when I saw it was online!
This was back in 1997 when Robert had become more famous internationally after the Trainspotting success and he was promoting The Full Monty. Enjoy!
Robert and his friend Ray Winstone will participate in a charity soccer match (or as we say in Europe – fotball). The game will take place on September 16 at 1:45 p.m. Hopefully we will get some photos! All the proceeds will go to B.C. Children’s Hospital and you can purchase your ticket here.
Some of the most popular players in Vancouver Whitecaps history will do battle against Hollywood North’s biggest stars in the Legends & Stars charity soccer match, Sept. 16, at B.C. Place to benefit B.C. Children’s Hospital.
On one of the side of the pitch, Jay DeMerit, the original captain for the MLS Whitecaps, will lead a team of alumni that includes fan favourites Y.P. Lee, David Chiumento, Ivor Evans, Steve Macdonald, and Alfredo Valente against a club chock full of actors working on big budget network TV series filmed in Vancouver.
Two young stars of the Netflix hit Riverdale, K.J. Apa (Archie Andrews) and Charles Melton (Reggie Mantle), will headline a Hollywood North team that also features veteran Brit actors Robert Carlyle, who played the psychopathic Begbie in Trainspotting, and Ray Winstone, the gruff scene-stealer known for his gangster roles in The Departed and Sexy Beast.
Carlyle stars as Rumpelstiltskin on the Vancouver-shot fantasy series Once Upon a Time, while Winstone stars in the locally produced crime/drama Ice.
Tickets are $5, with all proceeds donated to B.C. Children’s Hospital.
The hour-long game will take place at 1:45 p.m., just prior to the MLS match between the Whitecaps and Columbus Crew, which kicks off at 4 p.m. To attend the Legends & Stars showdown, fans must also have a ticket for the MLS match.
Robert asks us all to help and donate to the people in need after the hurricane Harvey. If you are able to, please do! You find the information to donate in the tweets below.

Now available on Blu-ray and DVD, Once Upon a Time: The Complete Sixth Season continues ABC’s popular fantasy drama. Throughout its sixth year, Once experienced some shaky, declining ratings. The network will be retooling the series as it soldiers onward. If you’re new to the series, proceed directly to the first season. The labyrinth plot incorporates an army of classic fairy tale characters and their alter egos—largely unfolding in the present-day Storybrooke, Maine, but shuffling endlessly between that and various fantasy realms. Even if you’re familiar with the series but simply not up-to-date, go back to wherever you left off before diving into the Sixth Season. This is highly difficult show to latch onto midstream
This past season continued the series’ creeping trend of de-emphasizing the core cast in favor of extraneous subplot involving new characters (designed to come and go). Chief among those distraction this year are Aladdin (Deniz Akdeniz) and Princess Jasmine (Karen David) in a multi-episode run, and even Jafar (Oded Fehr) in a few episodes. Be it the Frozen sisters (in season four) or King Arthur and Merlin (in season five), the revolving door of Disney-related characters often feels like mere fan service. There are other folks who drop by throughout season six (including an admittedly welcome Faran Tahir as Captain Nemo), and while the performances are generally fine it feels distracting.
Here is some new on the set photos of Once Upon a Time with Robert and his cast members. They were taken on August 17 and I’m sure will get new photos quiet often now for a while!
EDIT: 44 more photos have been added!
